Development banks in Nepal are class ‘B’ financial institutions operated under the regulation of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). Class ‘A’ financial institutions in Nepal are the commercial banks in Nepal. Development banks in Nepal can be furthur divided into 3 categories based on thier operating regions (or districts). They are National level development banks, 4-10 district level development banks, and 1-3 district level development banks. The mimimum working capital as per the regulation of NRB is also different for development banks based on their operating level. Altogether, there are 21 development banks in Nepal.

For the sake of simplicity, in this article, we will divide development banks into two categories
