Nepal is very rich in bio-diversity. Nepal is home to world’s highest mountains including Mt. Everest, highest mountain in the world as well as a home to endangered species like One-horned Rhinoceros and Royal Bengal Tiger. Nepal has made effort to protect and preserve it’s high magnitude of bio-diversity by establishing protected areas across the country. Government of Nepal has categorized protected areas into National parks, wildlife reserves, conservation areas and hunting reserves.

Chitwan National Park 952.63 km2 (367.81 sq mi) First National park of Nepal (1973). Has a status of World heritage site (1984). Main attraction includes Royal Bengal Tiger and One-horned Rhinoceros.
Sagarmatha National Park 1,148 km2 (443 sq mi) First National park of Nepal having status of World heritage site (1979). Main attraction includes Mount Everest, Gokyo lakes, and other mountains.
Langtang National Park 1,710 km2 (660 sq mi) Main attraction includes Gosainkunda Lake, Mt. Langtang Lirung.
Rara National Park 106 km2 (41 sq mi) Smallest National parks of Nepal. Main attraction is Rara Lake.
Khaptad National Park 225 km2 (87 sq mi) Established on the advice of Khaptad Baba. Main attraction is Khaptad baba ashram.
Shey Phoksundo National Park 3,555 km2 (1,373 sq mi) Largest National Park in Nepal. Main attraction is Phoksundo Lake.
Bardiya National Park 968 km2 (374 sq mi) Main attraction includes Royal Bengal Tiger and One-horned Rhinoceros.
Makalu Barun National Park 1,500 km2 (580 sq mi) It has elevation gain of above 8000m, making it the unique in the world in terms of protected area. Main attraction is Mt. Makalu.
Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park 159 km2 (61 sq mi) It is the nearest national park from Kathmandu, capital of Nepal.
Banke National Park 550 km2 Main attraction is Royal Bengal Tiger.
Shuklaphanta National Park 305 km2 (118 sq mi) Main attraction is Royal Bengal Tiger, One-horned Rhinoceros (translocated from Chitwan National park).
Parsa National Park 627.39 km2 (242.24 sq mi) Main attraction is Royal Bengal Tiger
